Slovenia – Venue Spotlight: Otočec Castle

Otočec Castle, a picture-perfect Renaissance castle set on an island amidst Krka River is a popular venue for special events. In pristine nature, on an islet on the River Krka stands the single castle on the water in Slovenia, reigning over the fertile winegrowing lands of Dolenjska with elegance and the flair of another age. It houses a world-class restaurant and a luxurious hotel, a member of prestigious Relais & Châteaux chain, and successfully connects superb hotel services with local environment. Just recently, a new winery has been set up within the castle. One of the castle towers has been turned into first-class wine cellar, illuminated only with a ceiling hanging chandelier, where valued domestic and foreign high-end wines found place.

Recently, National Geographic has ranked them among 25 world’s best castle hotels. And this is not only superb luxurious rooms that impressed them, they also praise great culinary offer and the fact that golf course is just around the corner:

“/…/ enjoy a mouthwatering dinner of venison tartare and fennel soup, then wake up for an early round of golf /…/”

And since winegrowing is a cherished tradition in this part of Slovenia, too, tasting superior Slovenian wines and the Cviček – red & white blend, famous specialty of Dolenjska –, is practically a must. In the Wine Tower, accompanied by delicious cuisine and spiced with local character and tradition, naturally. An experience and then some!
